Canine Rehabilitation
Enhancing your pet’s quality of life
Canine rehabilitation, essentially physical therapy for dogs, is a specialized field focused on improving your dog's mobility, strength, comfort, and overall well-being. Whether your dog is recovering from surgery, dealing with arthritis, or managing a chronic condition, rehabilitation can be instrumental in their recovery and long-term health. Through a combination of therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, and advanced modalities like laser therapy or hydrotherapy, canine rehabilitation aims to alleviate pain, restore function, and enhance the quality of life for your dog.
Our trained professionals will work closely with you to develop a personalized rehabilitation plan tailored to your dog’s specific needs. This holistic approach helps in faster recovery and helps prevent future injuries, ensuring that your furry friend stays active, happy, and healthy.
What should you expect for your rehab appointments?
Initial Evaluation:
Your first visit will be a one-hour session with Dr. Abby Sullivan, our certified canine rehabilitation therapist. During this evaluation, Dr. Sullivan will assess your pet’s condition, strength, and overall function. We'll discuss treatment options tailored to your pet's needs and develop a plan that includes at-home exercises and regular in-clinic treatments. We may also recommend assistive devices, ranging from traction aids for slippery floors to harnesses and wheelchairs.
If your pet has any dietary restrictions, please bring suitable treats to their appointments.
Follow-Up Appointments:
We typically recommend weekly visits for four to eight weeks, with the frequency adjusted based on your pet’s progress. The success of rehabilitation largely depends on the daily exercises you do with your pet at home. During your weekly visits, we’ll modify or add exercises as needed and use in-clinic modalities to help relieve pain and enhance your pet’s mobility.
